Alex Smoke is a master of the experimental techno/IDM genre. His music is quiet, reflective, and intense.

Hailing from Glasgow, Alex Smoke lives up to the images his name conveys — that of gloom and poignancy. While his music may reside on the dancefloor along with his renowned live sets, it also resonates so much further than this. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Alex’s proficiency in multi-faceted electronic-beat-making is founded securely on a lifetime of classical training, nurtured not least by his mother, by profession a music teacher. He has released three studio albums, Incommunicado (2005) and Paradolia (2006), on Soma Records, and Lux (2010) on his own label Hum+Haw. Smoke’s engineering skills has caught attention of top Scottish spinners Harri, Percy X and Mash. Also, Alex Smoke can already count the likes of Andrew Weatherall, DJ Hell and the Ghostly International crew as fans of his work.

Martinez grew up in southern Sweden before moving to Copenhagen, where he discovered electronic dance music in the late ‘90s.
By 2001, he was recording his own take on deep house and broken beats for Chicago’s legendary Guidance label, and within a few years his music took a major step forward as he began refining his fusion of tech house, electro and deeper, jazzier elements for Copenhagen’s Out Of Orbit Recordings. In recent years, he’s become affiliated with Moon Harbour Recordings, which released his album The Paradigm Shift last year.
Martinez has great deck skills and this, along with impeccable taste, has given him a strong DJ reputation worldwide. He’s often seen in the booths of various quality clubs and parties around the globe. He’s played together with major DJ’s such as Michael Mayer, Miss Kittin, Guido Schneider, Onur Özer, Loco Dice and Sven Väth.
